The author of The Stone Diaries, Carol Ann Shields also won a Pulitzer Prize and received national recognition for her captivating book. Other notable alumni include Kathy Griffin, George Schaefer, and Alex Wuman. In fact, not only has Oak Park and River Forest High School students performed well in the arts, they have also excelled in sports and science. For instance, the co-developer of the Marshall-Marchetti-Krantz procedure, Kermit E. Krantz graduated from area code 708. The procedure helped countless women who experienced urinary incontinence after giving birth. Furthermore, several Olympic gold medalists are also known for receiving their high school diploma in area code 708. Obviously, the school is popular in the community and the 3,000 plus students who are currently attending are proud to sing the song “We’re loyal to you Oak Park High.”

Right next to Oak Park, Orland Park has also made headlines as the home of several celebrities. For instance, Bill Rancic and Buddy Guy are both from the Orland Park area code.
