Updated: March 20th 2024

The cities of Naperville and Oswego are quietly tucked away in the suburbs of Chicago. Both cities are covered by the 630 area code, which started overlaying the 708 area code in 1996. The 312 area code was the original area code for the region but it too was split in 1989 when the 708 area code was added. Enough phone numbers are currently available under these three area codes, which makes future splits or overlays very unlikely. However, even if another split or overlay were to take place, residents in the 630 area code will remain largely unaffected. In fact, Naperville and Oswego residents must already dial all ten digits when making local phone calls due to the overlay that took place in 1996.

The Naperville, IL area code is particularly popular with its residents. The affluent community is one of the wealthiest in the nation. The 140,000 people that live in Naperville have transformed the city from a quiet farming town into a bustling city that gives its residents a variety of opportunities to spend their disposable income. Residents in the Naperville area code do have a ton of disposable income. The average income for families in the 630 area code skyrockets at over $130,000. As a result, it is only fitting that the region has some of the best schools in the district and excellent health care.

Even though the 630 area code in Naperville is a great place to live, it is not an ideal tourist attraction. The biggest attraction in Naperville is its historic district. However visitors will quickly realize that the buildings in the historic district are not exactly awe inspiring.

Luckily for unsuspecting tourists, Naperville does offer several unique coffee shops and restaurants, which are sure to take the focus away from the city’s lack of tourist attractions. After coffee there is not a better place in Naperville to stop by than its public library. The Naperville Public Library has consistently ranked number one in the United States for more than ten years. You will undoubtedly need that boost of caffeine to walk through its huge facilities and scan through the huge selection of books that the library has available.

Also located in area code 630, Oswego is very different from Naperville. Although it is also located on the outskirts of Chicago, the Oswego area code is able to maintain its farming roots. Its small population that reaches just over 30,000, is most known for its deserted roads and annual parades. The city is also known for drag racing, and the city actually had a drag strip during the 1950s until the 1970s. However, the town drag strip is now closed even though the city continues to be associated with drag racing.
