The largest of these cities is Cape Coral, which is actually a fairly new city that was founded in 1957.

Students from Cape Coral High School often go on to continue their education at Florida Gulf Coast University, which is also located in the 239 area code. Florida Gulf Coast University is commonly referred to as FGCU and is a highly regarded public university in Southwest Florida.
FGCU has an outstanding Business Administration program, which lures students from nearby cities. In fact, FGCU is located only a few miles from Naples, making it possible for students to commute. Additionally, FGCU is steadily increasing their academic demands for admission into the university. Students in the last few years have had excellent high school GPA’s as well as steadily rising SAT scores.
