Brick Township is a township in Ocean County in New Jersey. Going back in history, the first settlers arrived between 1742 and 1757. This was the time of the beginning of the sawmill industry, so the settlers were attracted to the virgin woodlands. In 1850, Ocean County was created from parts of Monmouth County and Burlington County. With the creation of Ocean County, Brick Township was incorporated as a township; the township was named after its most notable resident, Joseph Brick. The residents of Brick made their living off the land; at one point, Brick led Ocean County in the production of cranberries. During the 1900s, beaches, camps, and cabins were built, turning Brick into a rural resort area. In 2005, the Brick Township Reservoir opened; it cost $19.4 million and was the largest construction project ever in Brick. The year 2012 was a rough one for Brick because Hurricane Sandy destroyed parts of Brick and because Brick ranked sixth in New Jersey with 550 reported incidents of opiate or heroin abuse. Today Brick has a population of 75,072 and the racial makeup of the township is 93.05% White, 7.06% Hispanic, 2.00% African American, and 1.56% Asian (2010 Census). With an overall crime rate less than the New Jersey average and the national average, Brick is considered a very safe place to reside in. Brick operates three ocean beaches and one riverfront beach. There is a public trail that encircles the Brick Township Reservoir along with fishing stations, gazebos, and benches.

Middletown Township is a township in Monmouth County in New Jersey. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, CNNMoney.com included Middletown in their Top 100 Best Places to Live. Middletown was originally formed in 1693 and was incorporated as a township in 1798. The completion of a railroad junction in 1875 turned the township into a fast growing suburb by the start of the 20th century.

Today Middletown has a population of 66,522 and the racial makeup of the township is 93.89% White, 5.37% Hispanic, 2.60% Asian, and 1.31% African American (2010 Census).
