In 1918, Camp Bragg was established as an artillery training ground northwest of Fayetteville. Camp Bragg was renamed Fort Bragg in 1922. Fort Bragg majorly impacted Fayetteville’s economy and is synonymous with Fayetteville; without Fort Bragg, Fayetteville would have remained a small city. Today Fayetteville has a population of 200,564 and the racial makeup of the city is 45.7% White, 41.9% African American, 10.1% Hispanic, and 2.6% Asian (2010 Census). Unfortunately Fayetteville is a dangerous city to reside in. When it comes to the economy, Fort Bragg is the top employer and Fayetteville has a large and growing defense industry.
