Columbus is the most populous city in Ohio and is the 14th most populous city in the United States. Columbus is the capital of Ohio and is the county seat of Franklin County. Columbus has both a humid continental climate and a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot, muggy summers and cold, dry winters. Going back in history, after Ohio achieved statehood in 1803, the state legislature decided to build a new city in the state’s center. The new city, Columbus, was named in honor of Christopher Columbus and was founded in 1812 on the Scioto River. Columbus was incorporated in 1816 and officially chartered as a city in 1834. In 1831, the population boom led to the creation of two ethnic enclaves on the city’s outskirts; the Irish settled in the north while the Germans settled in the south. By the end of the 19th century, Columbus was known as the “Buggy Capital of the World” because there were two dozen buggy factories located in the city.

Columbus has a population of 787,033 and the racial makeup of the city is 61.5% White, 28.0% African American, 5.6% Hispanic, and 4.1% Asian (2010 Census). Unfortunately Columbus is a dangerous city to reside in.

Columbus has a strong and diverse economy, which explains why its economy was not impacted greatly during the Great Recession. With a large government presence in Columbus, other sectors of the economy include education, banking, retail, technology, health care, insurance, and medical research. Two of the biggest annual events in Columbus are the Ohio State Fair, one of the largest state fairs in the country, and Rock on the Range, often called “America’s Biggest Rock Festival.” Columbus is home to the Ohio State University, the third-largest university campus in the United States. The two major league professional sports teams in Columbus are the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) and the Columbus Crew SC (MLS). With so many things to see and do in the city, major points of interests include the Easton Town Center, the Ohio Statehouse, the Scioto Mile, the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Ohio Theater, the Ohio Stadium, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Nationwide Arena.

Dublin is a city in Ohio and is located in Franklin County, Delaware County, and Union County. Dublin is located on the Glaciated Allegheny Plateau and is a suburb of Columbus. Dublin was founded in 1802 and was named after Dublin, Ireland. Dublin has a population of 41,751 and the racial makeup of the city is 80.5% White, 15.3% Asian, 1.8% African American, and 1.8% Hispanic (2010 Census). The super low crime rate makes Dublin a safe city to reside in. Each year, Dublin hosts the Memorial Tournament, a PGA Tour golf tournament, and the Dublin Irish Festival, the largest 3-day Irish festival in the world. Dublin is home to 39 parks; several of the parks are home to a unique assortment of outdoor sculptures.
