Toledo is located in northwestern Ohio, just south of the Michigan border and is the fourth most populous city in Ohio. Toledo is the county seat of Lucas County and is nicknamed “ The Glass City.” The major interstate highways that run through Toledo are Interstate 75, Interstate 80, and Interstate 90. Toledo has a population of 287,208 and the racial makeup of the city is 64.8% White, 27.2% African American, 7.4% Hispanic, and 1.1% Asian (2010 Census). Toledo would not be a good city to reside in because it is one of Ohio’s most dangerous cities. The University of Toledo is the biggest employer in the city. Industrial manufacturing used to be the core of Toledo’s economy but it has been replaced with glass manufacturing and automobile manufacturing. Some of the major tourist attractions in the city include the Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art, the Toledo Botanical Garden, Fifth Third Field, and Hollywood Casino Toledo.

Mansfield is a city in Ohio and is the county seat of Richland County. Mansfield is the largest city in the Mid-Ohio region of the state and is roughly 65 miles northeast of Columbus and 65 miles southwest of Cleveland. Mansfield is situated in the western foothills of the Allegheny Plateau and is one of the highest elevated cities in Ohio. Officially known as “The Fun Center of Ohio,” other nicknames include “Carousel Capital of Ohio” and “Racing Capital of Ohio.” Mansfield has a humid continental climate, characterized by hot, humid summers and cold winters. Going back in history, the area was settled in 1808 and was named for Jared Mansfield, the Surveyor General of the Northwest Territory. Samuel Martin was the first settler in Mansfield and he built the first and only house in Mansfield in 1808. The first railroad reached Mansfield in 1846 and Mansfield was chartered as a city in 1857. By 1888, four railroads had passed through Mansfield, which in turn made the city a center of manufacturing and trade in north-central Ohio. In 1913, the Great Flood of 1913 caused major flooding in Mansfield. During that same year, Mansfield experienced major economic growth when the first road across America, the Lincoln Highway, came to the city. At the end of the 20th century, Mansfield was hit with urban decay and a loss of manufacturing jobs.

Mansfield has a population of 47,821 and the racial makeup of the city is 73.3% White, 22.1% African American, 1.9% Hispanic, and 0.7% Asian (2010 Census). Unfortunately Mansfield is a dangerous city to reside in.

Before the large decline in manufacturing, the home appliances and stove manufacturing industries was the core of Mansfield’s economy. Today Mansfield is still home to some manufacturers, but now the city also relies on the healthcare industry and on the three well-known food companies headquartered in the city. Home to numerous parks, the most well-known park in Mansfield is Richland Carrousel Park; the park opened in 1991 and is home to the first hand-carved wooden carousel in the United States. Points of interest in the city include Biblewalk, the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, the Little Buckeye Children’s Museum, the Mansfield Art Center, and the Mansfield Memorial Museum. Annual events in the city include the Mansfield Mehock Relays, the Miss Ohio Pageant, and the Richland County Fair.
