Manchester is located in south-central New Hampshire along the banks of the Merrimack River. Manchester is one of the county seats of Hillsborough County and is equidistant to Concord and Nashua. Manchester has a humid continental climate, meaning warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Going back in history, the area was settled in 1722 by colonists and then chartered in 1751 as Derryfield. In 1810, Derryfield was renamed Manchester. Incorporated as a city in 1846, Manchester was home to the largest cotton mill in the world. In 1741, the disputed boundary between Massachusetts and New Hampshire was resolved when the township of Dunstable was divided in two. In 1836, New Hampshire renamed their half of Dunstable to Nashua.

Eventually it was renamed Concord in 1765 by the governor of New Hampshire. In 1808, Concord was named the capital of New Hampshire. Today Concord has a population of 42,695 and the racial makeup of the city is 91.8% White, 3.4% Asian, 2.2% African American, and 2.1% Hispanic (2010 Census).
