Fast cars are not the only thing that has placed the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky on the map. Fruit of the Loom is headquartered in Bowling Green, and has given the region consistent opportunities for employment. The 270 area code covers the city of Bowling Green and is also used for the nearby cities of Owensboro and Elizabethtown. Implemented right before the year 2000, the 270 area code was split off from the 502 area code. The 520 area code was one of the original American area codes, and it took locals time to adjust to the new 270 area code. Unfortunately, just seven years after residents in the 270 area code started getting accustomed to the new area code state officials announced the implementation of the 364 area code. However, the 364 area code has not gone into effect and officials have been pushing back its deadline for the last five years. Currently, city officials plan to implement the split in early 2012, but it remains to be seen if they will follow through with this plan.

Tourism in the Bowling Green area code is not particularly remarkable. However, tourists will still inevitably find something to do. One of the most popular attractions in the 270 area code is the National Corvette Museum. The science museum is much less flashy than the Corvette museum, but it is much more child friendly. Interactive exhibits allow youngsters to get up close and personal, giving parents a much needed break from constantly needing to entertain their tots.

Most residents in this region live a fairly decent middle class lifestyle. Sunday school, picnics, Little League teams, golfing, and book clubs occupy the time of most residents in area code 270.

It is very difficult to encounter boredom in Bowling Green, as the city is essentially designed to keep everyone entertained. Outdoor activities are immensely popular, and a large portion of the community enjoys an active lifestyle. As a result, tennis courts, basketball courts, skateparks, golf courses, volleyball courts, and running trails are scattered throughout the city. Luckily, the city also has many trees which create the ideal amount of shade during the hottest parts of the day. Additionally, manicured middle class lawns and perfectly kept local businesses make an ideal backdrop for a recreational walk through the streets in the 270 area code. The summers can get very hot in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area code, which has resulted in many outdoor public pools and aquatic entertainment in the region. For instance, water playgrounds are all the rage in the area and attract people of all ages during the hotter months of the year.

General Motors has annual revenue that is in excess of $135 billion, which is beneficial to area code 270 if residents are able to get their hands on only a tiny percentage of it. Furthermore, Forbes Magazine has listed Bowling Green as one of the “Best Small Places for Business.” For instance, residents of Bowling Green have a fairly high income and the city has added new jobs during recent years. To make these statistics more appealing for residents, the city also has an incredibly low cost of living, which leaves residents with quite a bit of disposable income after paying their bills each month.
